Zephyr V2

After enough time out in the world, some design flaws start to show themselves.

Zephyr, in particular, has been prone to ankle breaks. Not a huge surprise — he was one of the first gnomes I made, and the connection between his legs and base has always been a bit thin. There are two things he doesn’t like to miss: leg day and a full meal.

I’ve known it for a while, but seeing Nate Cook go through the trouble of carefully putting one back together really drove it home. You can read about that here.

I’ve redesigned Zephyr — and I may end up doing the same with the rest of the original six. This version is a palm-sized test print: quick to run, easy to handle, and just big enough to catch the details that still need work. I’ll scale it up once I’m happy with the way everything looks.

The new Zephyr has a slightly different composure, better base support, thicker ankles, and a few modeling improvements I didn’t know how to do when I first started. Still not indestructible — but much more robust.

Just the next step. One foot in front of the other.
