About the Gnome Project
The Gnome Project began with a gnome made as a gift for family. More followed, and some were left along trails and in public places for strangers to find.
The gnomes are original sculptures, designed and cast in concrete in a small studio on Washington’s Kitsap Peninsula. Each character has a story.
Once placed, what happens next depends on the people who find them. Some have stayed close to where they began. Others have crossed the country, traveling by train, boat, and car. Some have crossed oceans.
QR codes connect the physical gnomes to this site, and the map records the encounters and journeys people have shared.
The People Who Move Them
These are some of the people who have found the gnomes and carried them along. Their photographs and shared encounters have become part of the project’s history.
